I cannot hum a single tune from the whole lot except for the chorus of âInto The Unknownâ which I find more annoying than anything. Native people are just that: People. The plot, from the very get-go, feels forced and tacked-on. Why does it take Elsa and Anna to come up with the answer (an answer you could see coming a mile away from your seat in the theater). Suddenly we have this whole story about a magical river that can tell you everything about the past. Itâs just not a very good movie, at least when compared to the original Frozen. Kristoff isnât the brightest bulb in the lightbulb factory, but even he would know that simply wandering off into the night without a word is bound to lead to problems. Sure, King Runeard attacks the Northuldra leader, but he does so in secret. Of course weâre all curious to see what this sequel is all about, and why not go to the theater? Itâs just another muddled, mucked up aspect of the film. Not only do they live in harmony with natureâa harmony that the vicious white settler has undone with inexplicable treacheryâthey live in an enchanted forest and are in tune with the magical spirits there. Why would she freak out when he says they might die, knowing full well the risks theyâre taking? And thatâs that. we then move right into White Savior territory. The view from Anna grows from that moment, placing her in the position of Main Character, an intent of Author verfied in a recent interview: ...it's a little Shawshank-y where it's Anna's story but it's really about Elsa...we go through her eyes, so she's technically the protagonist... Anna works as both Main Character and Protagonist within the Objective Story (Dramatica differentiates between the two). The [Dramatica][1] theory of story refers to the structure of an argument as a storyform. Frozen will endure in the hearts and minds of so many people because of the solid storyform at the center of it all. Regardless of how these story points could have been exposed, bringing them to the film would have helped shore up the logical side of the story and help stifle those criticisms that felt the plot lacked sophistication. Again, the Northuldra are only half-baked at best, built on vague ideas of what indigenous people are like in our most vapid romantic texts. Instead, a more sinister dream comes to life.
